ALAN BROWN
Alan Brown started taking ‘cello lessons as a pupil of Joyce Lenton and continued studying with her at Trinity School in Croydon. As he reached Grade 8, he was taught by Maureen Lovell in Reigate.
He went on from early festival successes and membership of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain to study piano and 'cello with Ruth Harte and Lilly Phillips at the Royal Academy of Music.
He joined the Croydon Symphony Orchestra whilst at school, and is still the leader of the ‘cello section. He was also the ‘cello leader of the newly-formed Croydon Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.
The orchestral experience and contact with the conductor, Arthur Davison, led to many piano concerto performances, and Alan now has a repertoire of about 40 piano concertos.
Alan performs throughout the United Kingdom and Europe, as well as the Channel Islands, Australia, South Korea and Japan.
Alan gives much of his time to young students, and works as accompanist and coach at both the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In addition he has a regular summer commitment to international violin courses, working with Igor Ozim in Weimar, Salzburg and Slovenia.
