REBECCA AUSTEN-BROWN

Rebecca Austen-Brown has established herself as one of the most creative and stylish multi-instrumentalists in the UK.
As a specialist in early woodwind and string instruments,

Rebecca’s concerts have taken her to music festivals throughout the UK, Europe and the US, as well as recording live broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 and 4. She is the driving force behind medieval/trad ensemble Bardos Band, andthe Fontanella Recorder Quintet. She regularly appears as a soloist, and has appeared with such orchestras as Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Britten Sinfonia, and The Orchestra of the Swan.

Her interest in performing with a 21st century twist and her love of improvising has led to touring and recording with the Mediaeval Baebes, and co-founding the experimental duo Wyrewood.

Touring with the Young Vic Theatre in 2000 she played 17 instruments in their acclaimed production of Arabian Nights, visiting Brazil, Taiwan, Hong Kong and New York.

Rebecca teaches at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the Royal College of Music Junior Department, and tutors on the Woodhouse International Advanced Recorder Course. As an adjudicator she also regularly judges in the  Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.
