ELIZABETH ANGEL

Elizabeth Angel entered the Royal College of Music as an exhibitioner and studied the 'cello and piano as joint first studies with Harvey Phillips and Hilda Klein. She achieved teaching diplomas in both instruments and a performance ARCM on the 'cello, and also won the first prize for 'cello (Geoffrey Tankard). She continued her studies with Pierre Fournier in Geneva on a Countess of Munster award, and was chosen to represent Great Britain on an International Course in Santiago di Compostella, Spain. She also attended masterclasses in Switzerland taken by Pablo Casals, and appeared on television in a Paul Tortelier masterclass.

From 1963, when she made a very successful debut at the Wigmore Hall, She freelanced in London, dividing her time between solo playing , chamber music, chamber orchestras and teaching. She has built up a fine reputation as a teacher and coach. She has taught from 1962 at the Junior Dept. of the Royal College of Music and the Roehampton and West London Institutes. She also has a private practise of pupils ranging from five to seventy!

In 1966 she married Richard Bureau, violinist, and they formed the Bureau Piano Trio which has given many recitals at the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room, including many first performances. She had two sons in 1968 and 1970 and managed to combine family commitments with her freelance career!

Miss Angel has been an Associated Board Examiner since 1986 and is also an Adjudicator for the Federation of Music Festivals where she is much in demand as a sympathetic and helpful adjudicator. From 1993 she has toured the Far East for the Associated Board including the countries of Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia.
