MARY SHACKEL LRAM LNCSD LUD

Mary trained at the New College of Speech and Drama and went on to work in the professional theatre, BBC Radio and television. Though this was an exciting way to earn a living, Mary soon found that she needed more regular employment and so turned to Drama teaching which has been her great love ever since!

She has taught in a variety of schools, using Drama not only to teach performance skills but as a means of encouraging children to articulate their thoughts.

In 1985 Mary was asked to start a drama department at Croydon High School for Girls.

After retiring from the school in 1999 Mary continued to run her own drama studio and also to visit both Primary and Secondary schools to lead poetry and drama workshops.

She is an experienced adjudicator, director and an examiner for Trinity/Guildhall examinations.

Mary is delighted to have been invited to Reigate and Redhill Festival. She herself entered local festivals and the confidence gained there has proved a life long asset. It now gives her great pleasure to be able to encourage today’s young people in the same way.
