David Squibb

A Scholar and Prize-winner at the Royal Academy of Music, David Squibb was Director of Music at Trinity School, Croydon for over thirty years. In addition to the considerable amount of instrumental music at the School, Trinity Boys Choir under David Squibb was engaged for many public concerts, broadcasts on radio and TV, and recordings. The Boys performed with all the major London orchestras at all the principal London concert halls, and in most English Cathedrals. Numerous invitations from abroad took the Trinity Boys as far a-field as Hong Kong and Malaysia, as well as several European countries.

The Choir’s versatile repertoire established by David Squibb ranged from the Henry Wood ’Proms’ to backing pop records, and on many occasions the Boys took part in professional operas in all the London opera houses, Glyndebourne and abroad. They are particularly associated with Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the recording of it under the baton of the late Richard Hickox. The story of their hundred-plus performances of this opera is told in the book by Walter Swan, A Century of Dreams.
